POLES (BUT NOT) APART

Lim is a pragmatist who retired recently after a long career crunching numbers. Ron his son is an idealist, on the cusp of beginning a career in the creative industry. One could say that they are poles apart, from the way they look to the things they love to do. However, they say they are more alike than dissimilar. For one, they are two terribly busy individuals!

Despite their schedules and differences, Lim and Ron share a deep rooted bond. Father and son attribute this to their faith which inspires them to stay connected as much as possible. How? They use the precious pockets of time they share during car rides to bond – catch up, exchange perspectives, contend with each other and to iron out their differences. They certainly sound like a team. How about Opposites United?

ALAN: BEEN THERE, SHOT THAT

Alan is far more acquainted with being behind the camera, barking instructions at his crew than being in front of it. "But work has always been work. It's never personal!", says the dimunitive lensman whose gaze is as intense as a shot of aged whiskey. "I love people too much."

Over the decades, the adrenaline junkie has also stumbled onto paths where he's been literally shot at. And, journeyed into places of personal loss and hopelessness. From the finer things in life, beautiful people to racial riots and children of agent orange, Alan and his cameras have witnessed and captured both the pretty and nasty.

He may not make the same mistakes living his life over again. But Alan will hardly consider being anything other than a photographer. "There's something about looking at the world through the viewfinder. It's like watching a movie. Amazing!" His eyes lighting up once more.

Esmond & Eli: "E" for EASY

Esmond was the frontman of a band and works in retail. But when he came in, Eli was the exact opposite of what I expected: reserved.

Dad knew him though, and how to get to him. Esmond took off his watch and let Eli play with it while we chatted, and within 10 minutes the boy had warmed up. Comfortable, the mischief came right out as these photos show. It was an easy session and took just 30 minutes.
